HARROGATE SELF CATERING PROPERTIES

Harrogate

Harrogate is a jewel in Yorkshire’s crown!  Perfect for just a weekend break – but with plenty to keep you entertained for a much longer stay!

This elegant town has enjoyed a fashionable reputation as “the in place” to visit since the Georgians first promenaded in the Valley Gardens (now an English Heritage Grade II listed site) after taking the spa waters!  This put Harrogate firmly on the map and it’s been a chic destination for visitors from all over the world ever since – and they are never disappointed.

Where to stay in Harrogate – the best selection of self catering properties

We can offer a wide range of self catering Harrogate accommodation from holiday apartments to town houses – we even have cottages (why not try Teapot Cottage for size?)!  Whether you are looking for an apartment just for two (St Mary’s Apartment or Harrogate Central Suites fit the bill), a townhouse for 8 (take a look at Station Town House or Belmont House) or a group of apartments in Harrogate for a larger gathering (Parliament Street Apartments are right in the centre of town), we have the very widest choice of Harrogate accommodation.

What to do in Harrogate?

If you love to shop – enticing window displays of major high street and independent retailers alike line the wide Victorian boulevards of the upper town and the intimate cobbled streets and Georgian buildings at the bottom of the Pier head.  It’s the perfect place to browse and select that perfect gift for a loved one – or perhaps even an indulgence for yourself.

Antique and art lovers will find plenty to enjoy with a thriving community of antique and art shops as well as regular art and antiques fairs attracting dealers from far and wide.

The best places to eat and drink in Harrogate

And for when you have shopped until you drop – revive yourself in one of the many restaurants, cafes and bars – expect to find many well known and loved eateries, along with refreshing individual offerings from artisan coffee shops and craft bakeries to restaurants influenced by every continent under the sun.  Bean and Bud coffee shop, La Feria and Norse restaurants and of course the world renowned Bettys Tearoom are among our favourites.

A thriving calendar of events

There’s plenty to please the culture vulture with a packed arts calendar during the year, including the Harrogate International Festival, Theakston’s Old Peculiar Crime Writer’s Festival, the Comedy Festival and the International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival,  bringing  fans from across the globe to packed houses in the Theatre, Royal Hall and International Centre.

Thousands of visitors flock to Harrogate’s Yorkshire Event Centre and Harrogate International Centre each year for their hugely popular calendar of events, including the Spring and Autumn Flower shows and the Great Yorkshire Show – both winning prizes for the biggest and best in class!

Take time out!

And if you fancy getting away from the hustle and bustle of the town, there are plenty of glorious green spaces – the 200 acre open parkland known as the Stray is protected by Ancient Charter and extends right into the centre of town – whilst RHS Harlow Carr, located on the western edge of Harrogate, is easily accessible by bus.

So what are you waiting for – there’s so much to do if you book a self catering break in Harrogate – the perfect holiday cottage, apartment or town house is just a phone call or the click of a mouse away!

Local Attractions in Harrogate

ROYAL PUMP ROOM MUSEUM
Harrogate

The Royal Pump Room Museum is a small yet interesting museum which explains the history of Harrogate, which is heavily influenced by it's spa water. The museum is housed in an elegant Victorian building where over 15,000 visitors used to "take the waters" at the height of its popularity.

The museum houses fascinating artefacts pertinant to Harrogate's history as well as a wealth of Egyptology gifted by benefactors from the town. It costs less than five pounds for entry and the staff are really friendly. A trip to the Royal Pump Museum would work really well with a stroll round Harrogate's beautiful park The Valley Gardens. Visit here for further details.

HARROGATE STRAY
Harrogate

Enjoy Harrogate's stunning open parkland which surrounds the town, it's a fantastic green space ideal for walks and picnics. At special times of the year there's events to enjoy on The Stray, big open air cinema screens, Christmas markets and even the final stage of Le Tour de France in July 2014.

BARS & RESTAURANTS
Harrogate

Harrogate has a wealth of bars and restaurants to choose from. At Harrogate Holidays we particularly enjoy coffee overlooking The Stray in Weeton's deli or at the world famous Betty's, (the one at Harlow Carr RHS is usually a little quieter than the town centre one). If you enjoy food from the Pacific Rim, The Orchid is superb and Cardomom Black is a fantastic upmarket Indian resturant - who freshly cook their dishes to suit your palette. There's a superb fine dining at the award winning Norse restuarant (which doubles as a superb Scandi cafe during the day called Balterzens). There's also lots of high end restaurant chains in Harrogate, such as Cau, Cote & Carluccios.

BETTYS CAFÉ
Harrogate

A visit to the area would not be complete without a trip to the world famous tea rooms - Betty's. The service is continous and into the evening in the Harrogate Cafe, but our advice would be to miss the queues by choosing an off peak time. Breakfast is simply delicious and afternoon tea sublime. There's a shop selling some of the best bakery products you'll ever taste - what could be nicer than a relaxing breakfast in your holiday property with Betty's bread and trimmings (our favourite is the mouse bread). The Cafe in town is full of old world glamour but for a more relaxed experience the cafe at Harlow Carr RHS Gardens is gorgeous, overlooking the award winning gardens, it's also great for children.

THE TURKISH BATHS
Harrogate

We can't recommend a visit to Harrogate Turkish Baths, highly enough, just take time out from the rat race and be transported back to the Victorian era. The baths were designed and built by the Victorians inspired by Moorish design with great Islamic arches and screens. Plan to spend around three hours in the baths, where you can spend time alternating between the hot chambers and the invigorating plunge pool. There are also beauty treatments available at the baths. We would encourage you to visit their website to look at the session times and book in advance at busier times.
